    Overview

    Professor Shapiro holds BSc and MSc in Physics and Mechanics from St Petersburg Technical University, with major in Aerodynamics and Thermodynamics, and PhD in Mechanical  Engineering from Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. After a Post-doctoral Study in MIT (Cambridge MA), and winning the presigious Igal Alon Fellowship he obtained position of Senior Lecturer in the Technion, where he had successively been promoted to Associate Professor and in 1999 to Full Professor of Mechanical Engineering. He received several awards, including the International Smoluchowski award in Aerosol Research from the European Aerosol Association and Harry Oppenheimer Cathedra in Engineering in the Technion. He served as Technion’s Mechanical Engineering Faculty Dean, Head of the Laboratory of Transport Processes in Porous Materials and Head of the Center of Energy and Environment Research.  He authored and co-authored over 130 journal publications and book chapters and supervised over 25 graduate and post-graduate students. Since 2019 he is Emeritus Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Technion and Head of the GTIIT Program of Mechanical Engineering and Robotics.
